Towering Moderno
Buckhead’s tall, new model turns on the charm.
With a name like The Mansion on Peachtree, you might expect Atlanta’s hottest new hotel to ooze Southern nostalgia. But in fact the slender 42-story, eight-sided skyscraper, opening today on Peachtree Road, is more Robert A.M. Stern than Robert E. Lee. (It’s also the highest building in upscale Buckhead — for now.) In place of southern glitz, this latest Rosewood property aims to pour the charm into hospitality. Each guest is assigned a personal butler, who is tasked with both fulfilling your whims — a pocket GPS navigator? professional in-house auto detailing? –- and delivering three complimentary bites a day: continental breakfast at wake-up, a mid-day snack, and hors d’oeuvres with an evening cordial. Not that you should skip a cocktail in the hotel library-and-lounge overlooking the terraced English garden.
It’s all prep, though, for dinner at The Mansion’s own Craft Atlanta — Tom Colicchio’s fourth outpost of his celebrated eatery, slated to open late summer. Meantime, you can wallow in a spot of vinotherapy: Lydia Mondavi of the Mondavi Winery family unveils her “world-exclusive” 29 Spa with 14 treatment rooms at The Mansion. It features her own line of cosmetics, too — made from grape seed extracts, of course.
